Destiny Delayed is a 5700 word afrofuturistic, genre bender short story. It’s set in a near future Lagos, Nigeria and features predatory, uber capitalistic corporations, people full of heart but faced with difficult decisions and the consequences when you mix those two in a place with power matrixes that exist to take the most and give the least.
It was first published in the May/June 2022 issue of Asimov and reprinted in the September October 2022 issue of Galaxy’s Edge. You can read it in either of those places, and also listen to a narration of it on the Asimov’s Podcast free as a halloween special, and #BlackSpeculativeFictionMonth offering. Do consider nominating it for awards if you deem it worthy.
It’s eligible for the Hugo, Nebula, WFA, Bram Stoker, Locus, BSFA, BFA, Sturgeon and other short fiction awards.
You can get it free to read in all these places
